What you need to do when you are offered a place

When an appropriate place becomes available for your child, we will write a letter to him or her.  This letter will give a start date, a session time, their Level (or Stage from around autumn 2008), their Teachers's name, the Bay that your child has been appointed to and the name of their Bay Captain.

If you don't need the place anymore, please just let us know so that we can offer it to someone else very quickly.

If you would like to take the place up, please let us know so that we can expect you!

Before you come along to join, please make sure that:

- you bring your cheque book with you.

- you have printed off and completed the Emergency Contact details form from the Download page (remember to keep us in touch with any changes to these details on a regular basis)

- your child has tried out their goggles, the goggles fit and that your child knows how to put them on.

When you arrive for your first session with us, your child just needs to come through to the changing rooms about 5 minutes before the start of their lesson, so that they are ready and on the bench for the register to be taken at the start of the session.

We then need the grown-ups to sort out the paperwork in reception!  You will need to pay the ASA joining fee (currently £8.50) and subs for the current month.  Cheques are payable to Broadstairs Lifeguard and Swimming Club.  We will apportion the subs depending on when you join in the current month.  Remember that subs are due on the first Thursday of the month, and are payable by Standing Order.  We will give you a standing order form for you to complete and take to your bank.  Please remember to check early in the following month that the subscription has been paid, as the banks aren't always reliable at registering these!

We will also need you to complete a pink form to register your child with the ASA.  Please let us know if you need help filling this out.  Once the ASA has registered your child, they will send a plastic card to us, which we will then pass on to you.  This card is important, so please keep it in a safe place and bring it with you every week.  On the back of the card, we will write which Bay you are in, as a reminder!

We will also ask you for the Emergency Contact details form.

Swimmers in the main pool (that's Level 5 upwards) are required to have swimming fins/flippers that are suitable for a swimming pool.  No sea flippers or sub aqua fins, please, as they are too big and rigid.

Also, swimmers whose hair is long enough to get into their eyes, should have it tied back and wear a hat (we encourage all swimmers to wear a hat, not just those with long hair).  The Club sells hats and fins at subsidised prices, please ask our volunteers in reception if you need a hat.

If you have any questions, please just contact us on
