Inter Bay Water Polo Tournament March 2008

The second Club tournament took place for the 8.15 and 9.00 groups on 20 March 2008.  We were pleased to welcome Lawrence Arnold again to teach, referee and play.  Click here to see who passed the required standards for ASA Water Polo awards.

Numbers were lower than usual, probably due to the following day being Good Friday, with families away for the Easter break.

However the swimmers who came gave their all as usual!

Botany once again suffered from having only 5 or 6 swimmers, so we combined Botany and Joss together.  This made the tournament a much quicker turn round!

In the first match, Stone v Viking, the latter stamped their authority on their opponents, pushing 5 goals past the Stone Bay players, who pulled one back from Liam Fricker.  (Viking scorers - Dominic Campbell, Dave Campbell, Amie Selby and two from Lily Price)

Next match saw Viking dominate, but to a lesser extent, agains the combined team, winning 3-0, scorers Ross Saddington, Ant Tuddenham and Bronwyn Tuddenham.

Last match to play was the combined team versus Stone Bay.  Stone found some form and won by 6 goals to 2.  Scorers for Stone - Sophie White x 2, Jon Drake x 3, Lawrence Arnold (OK so he was a ringer ....)  Scorers for combined team - Jack Basson x 2 (Botany Bay)

No prizes for sussing out the final scoreline:
Viking 8
Stone 6
Botany and Joss combined 2

To finish the evening, the younger ones gave way and the 9.00 swimmers gave it their all with the help of Darren Gambrill and Lawrence Arnold.

This game was more competitive, and with just four female players out of 19.  The play was very fast and strong, white hats playing against blue hats.

Marc Summers and Dominic Campbell scored twice for whites, Ant Tuddenham scored the only goal for blue.

We need the current custodian of the water polo trophy (probably a Viking bay player) to return the trophy ASAP.
